Author Guidelines

I. Notes to Authors

A. Scope & Discipline Areas

Papers submitted to Fahimna: Journal of Islamic Studies should present a specific account of research on Islamic Studies. The journal accepts manuscripts focusing on, but not limited to, the following key themes and the broader significance of Islamic Studies in religious life:

  • Islamic Philosophy
  • Islamic Thought and Literature
  • Islam and Peace
  • Islamic Civilization and Science
  • Islam in Local Contexts
  • Muslim Communities
  • Islamic Education
  • Islamic Law
  • Islamic Economics and Business
  • Qur’anic and Hadith Studies
  • Islamic Management

B. Authorship & Submissions

  • Maximum Authors: Each paper may have a maximum of five (5) authors.

  • Contribution: Authorship must be limited to individuals who made significant contributions to conceptualization, methodological design, data collection, or data analysis. Others contributing secondary support (e.g., proofreading, language editing) should be acknowledged in an Acknowledgments section.

  • Author Details: Each author must state their full name, institutional affiliation, and official email address. The corresponding author must provide their ORCID iD, while co-authors are strongly encouraged to provide theirs as well.

C. General Submission Rules

  • Originality: All submissions must be original work not currently under consideration or published elsewhere.

  • Prior Publication: Material previously published in another language, or stemming from an academic thesis/dissertation, may be considered if explicitly disclosed in a cover letter and approved by the Managing Editor.

  • Peer Review Screening: All manuscripts undergo a initial screening to ensure fit with the journal's focus and scope. Decisions are usually communicated within 8 weeks. Revisions must be returned within 14 days.

II. Manuscript Layout & Technical Specifications

A. General Formatting

  • Word Count: 5,000 to 7,000 words (including title, abstract, main body, references, and footnotes).

  • Page Setup: Single-spaced on A4 paper size with 'Moderate' margins [Top: 2.54 cm, Left: 1.91 cm, Bottom: 2.54 cm, Right: 1.91 cm].

  • Typography:

    • Title: Times New Roman, 14pt, Center, Bold, Max 12 words.

    • Main Text (Latin): Times New Roman, 12pt, Spacing 1.15cm.

    • Arabic Text: Traditional Arabic, 14pt.

    • Abstract: Book Antiqua, 10pt, Italic.

  • Styling: Avoid using section breaks or bold text within the body (use italics for emphasis instead). Arabic transliteration must follow the IJMES (International Journal of Middle East Studies) style.

B. Structure of the Article

  1. Title: Maximum of 12-15 words, encompassing the formal object, material object, and research context.

  2. Author Information: Full names, affiliations, email addresses, indicating the corresponding author.

  3. Abstract & Keywords:

    • An abstract in English is required for all submitted articles. The abstract should be concise, clear, and briefly state the purpose of the research, the methodology, the principal results, and major conclusions.

    • Length: 200–250 words written in a single paragraph.

    • Contents: Research objectives, core problem, methods, key findings, and novel conclusions.

    • Keywords: 3 to 5 keywords, separated by semicolons (;).

  4. Introduction: Outlines the theoretical background, literature gaps (what is known vs. unknown), research objectives, research questions, and a brief description of the methodology.

  5. Result and Discussion: A single integrated section presenting key empirical/theoretical findings supported by critical analysis. Figures and tables must be embedded directly in this section with brief captions.

  6. Conclusion: Concisely summarizes main implications and addresses research questions posed in the introduction. Avoid simply repeating the abstract.

  7. Declaration of AI and AI Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

  8. Acknowledgment (If any)

  9. References:

    • At least 60% of references must come from primary sources or peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 10 years.

    • References must be formatted using Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition (full note).

    • Must be managed using reference software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

    • Plagiarism Check: All submitted manuscripts will be checked for originality using Turnitin (or similar software). The maximum acceptable similarity index is 35%.
